Platinum is the rarely found metal on the planet earth and its rarity has associated it with exclusivity and wealth. The bullion of platinum has the ISO currency code of XPT. The coins, bars, and ingots of platinum were traded as well as collected in ancient times. It is widely used in jewellery because of its inertness and shine. The platinum coins makes a form of currency and platinum bullion coins comprises of the American Platinum Eagle, the Australian Platinum Koala, the Manx Noble, and the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf. It was also used but discontinued as Russian Ballet series that was issued by the Russian Federation.

Platinum – Coins and Colours Moreover, China started minting platinum coins in 1987 by issuing 2000 quality proof pieces along with face value of 100 Yuan. It is about 99.95% in composition that contains 1 ounce of platinum.

China also minted platinum panda coins, in different denominations and amounts in the year 1988-1990, 1993-1997, and 2002-2005. The Russian Empire also prepared the legitimate platinum coins in the 1800s while the Soviet Union also prepared platinum coinage. The imperial platinum coinage is not famous. The Soviet Union and later the Russian Federation produced large number of platinum coins in denominations of 25, 50 and 150 rubbles. At present, this trend is discontinued. The British Royal Mint also minted the Platinum Britannia bullion coins.

The Platinum colour is basically a colour that pale greyish-white with metallic tint and resembles the metal platinum. The use of platinum colour takes place in the year 1918. Platinum plays a unique role in human culture. Apart from coins, colour, jewellery and industrial usages, the word platinum assumes significance in other areas as well. A platinum award is regarded as a prestigious award that is above gold, silver, or bronze award. A platinum credit card offers higher credit limit and a less interest rate as compared to regular credit card.
